Storm Grill is a game made for the Brackeys Game Jam 2024.2 with the theme "Calm Before The Storm" within 5 days.

This is a incremental game where you play as a grill refusing to be doused by a storm. You fight against raindrops, gather coins and then spend them over a variety of power-ups in a skill tree to eventually survive until you can see the storm pass.

Features

  • 28 Unique power-ups
  • In-game story sequence & texts for guidance
  • Difficulty, bloom & volume options
  • Short runs with simple mechanics & long runs on late-game
  • A carefully picked color-palette for your eyes
  • More QoL features within the skill tree
  • An ending

How To Play

Evaporate droplets by clicking over them. When you lose spend your earned coins on power-ups and modify different aspects of the game. Then evaporate even more droplets, spend even more coins, repeat until you survive the whole storm.

There is also a short story sequence and guide texts ingame to guide people who don't read this description.

Controls

  • Left Click -> Interact with the GUI & destroy droplets
  • Right Click -> Refund power-ups
  • Escape / P -> Pause the game

nice game rlly fun

(+1)

What a crazy idea for a game. It was fun though.

(+2)

Was fun to progress through, even if a bit grindy if you decide to 100%, having easy mode never turned on. Wish big droplets didnt reduce the total amount of droplets on screen (bad for money making). Also had hoped that full upgrades would render personal heat useless, but the run died at 'Good Luck' without assistance. Cool Game

(+1)

Sadly unplayable in browser on Android. The upgrades can't be purchased.

(+1)

I enjoyed this small game. it was fun and I like the design of the game as well. good work.

Şu oyuna türkçe ekleyin. Sol üstteki skillere basmaktan hepsini maksladım. Diğerlerini okumadım bile :D

(+2)

dev didnt like the criticism from the dude below me? I read the comment and sure it was harsh but definitely also true

(2 edits) (+2)

randomly lossing hp when not hit.

Edit: Okay why does beraking purple hurt me for like 25-100 damage? You say to not let rain hit the fire yet I have to avoid the purples? what sense does that make?

purple triangles upgrade doesn't do a thing about their spawn rate

I can't work out what the purple triangles do. I thought that maybe if they hit me a certain amount it kills me, then I though if they touch my personal heat area it kills me but I'm confused now. Does anyone know?
Other than this one thing I am adicted to this game!

Rough sizing dimensions for browser lay. Full screen misses borders so you can't read the upgrades or reach the edges. Non full screen creates dead zone where itch lists links to add/rate/view etc.

I found a fairly rare bug, where the gold ring can sometimes move super slowly, and in my case, not move at all.

(+1)

no mobile controls

For some reason I'm taking damage every 10 seconds or so randomly
even while I'm not letting any of the droplets get past; please fix this.
Great game though!

(+2)(-1)

That's because you're hitting the purple drops. The game never tells you that this damages you greatly.

That's the thing though, I'm NOT.

heavily need mobile functions

Seriously, What a Game, Loved It... For a Game Made In 5 Days, This Was Amazing, Wish It Was Lot Longer Now... Thanks a Lot Guys, Appreciate All The Work And Looking Forward To More of Your Future Works... ❤❤❤

Wow. Just wow. I will be back to edit this comment later, but I wanted to say this before I played it. I have NEVER seen a game jump up the list of incremental games this fast. This game went from not even showing up to near the very top. Congrats!

Edit: This game clearly deserved it, because not only does it have some of the best art I've ever seen, the gameplay is satisfying and fun. This is incredibly well made, and I was honestly pretty sad to see it end.

(+3)

i should've remembered about the "difficulty" setting in the options when grinding for all upgrades:
1: buy upgrades on easy
2: swap to hard
3: sell
4: swap back
5: repeat

im so colorblind that i dont see purple droplets, if i didnt read the comments i would miss the upgrade too xD, hate them with passion, the % chance seems bs too, 0.005% that means one droplet in 20000 will be purple, but they apper like 1/20. Yeah after some testing, there is litteraly no diffrence in how many purple droplets spawn with lvl 1 upgrade or lvl 8, only lvl 9 works

(+6)

I don't think the purple odds reduction upgrade is working? There seem to be a significant amount even at the second-highest level.

ehm why am I sddenly losing like 20 hp o so at once when not even a droplet is touchign the bottom?

not sure if it is the independent area touching the bottom, the lightning strike or what.
but it sucks.

You lose HP if you vaporise the purple droplets; that's why there is an upgrade available through which you can lower the chances of getting a purple droplet and if you max it you won't get any purple droplets.

Thank you for playing & sorry for the confusion. The reason is likely purple droplets, they deal max hp % based damage when destroyed manually and are meant to be avoided, but game does not teach about this mechanic as it should. Hope it wasn't too disruptive. Cheers!

Incredible game, very fun, very well designed, great work 👍

(+5)

i find that the easiest strat is to turn up the regen stat to max and the money per hurt to ma

(+1)

Good fun very addictive

(+2)

Lost on "Congratulations"

this is a skill

(1 edit) (+4)

The diffrence between the 8th and 9nth purple drop upgrade is huge, you can just swipe your mouse to get all of the drops, I went from insane to 0.0 with that one

Edit: I beat the game next round

(+3)

Awesome game, tons of fun. Took me a couple of lives to realize the purple ones hurt me lol, I was just smashing everything

(+1)

game would be great on mobile

(+1)

loved it, kinda reminds me of geometry dash with the color scheme.  would love a more idle version where colleting droplets is the theme :)

(1 edit) (+1)

Quick jam game, didn't spend much time...

Just something around 3 hours. ;-)

(+1)

I maxxed out all of the upgrades just to say I did. So. Not bad lol

(1 edit) (+1)

There comes a point in the game where you make more coins just sitting and taking damage than actively playing, with all the upgrades I make about 15000 actively playing, and just clicking continue and waiting made me about 28000, some upgrades that make it more profitable to actively play would be nice, also an endless mode would be nice too.

(+1)

Being a grill has never been more epic!

I have been playing this game on mobile, and I noticed that there was no way to purchase upgrades. It would be nice if there was a purchasebutton after selecting an upgrade so mobile players could use them also. And another thing; from reading others comments, a few ideas to make a better harder version. Having something like a water cluster where when it is destroyed, it makes smaller droplets; a possible 'gust of wind' where the grill loses its auto abilities for a few seconds, maybe a thunderbolt which makes drops more relisilient and needs more hits to be destroyed.

I have too many ideas, so if you ever want to read a page of possibly bad ideas, I'm your guy.

what do evil drops do?

just noticed evil droplets (red ones) harm you when you evaporate them. stupid me didn't question it when started and even thought it healed me. XD

also i think you should nerf slowdown upgrade

Released a small patch that nerfes the slowdown upgrade and makes the evil droplets purple instead of red to signify they are bad / out of place :)

On the other hand, keeping red droplets and having them heal could be pretty nice.

Thank you!

Comment:

Great game! The only problem is that it is too short and repetitive. In the late stages all you need to do is swipe back and forth.

Advice:

Add more upgrades and make the game longer

Add more game modes and difficulties

Make the game more challenging

one of the best incremental games ive seen on here in a while, very impressed. My only real issue with the game is I wish it was longer, hope it keeps getting updated

(+1)

It was a very fun incremental game with beautiful contrasts of red and blue!
The upgrades were moderately quick to enhance and I was able to run through to the end, meow~!

(+1)

I like this game alot. I would genuinely spend money on this game. I have yet to reach the ending as I'm writing this review but just a suggestion what if you added something like a upgrade that adds a chance for a different coloured droplet the gives a secondary currency that you could buy better upgrades with like a pink droplet that gives gems or something like that.

(+1)

Haha great minds think alike, I may have something in the works exactly for your liking, sometime in future...  :)
